Forty Years of Painting

Ada Richardson and Charles Ludlow

A Retrospective exhibition of artists Ada Richardson and Charles Ludlow will be held at The Nona Gallery, Brisbane Institute of Art during August — September, 2009.

Curated by artist, teacher and friend, Wim de Vos, the exhibition will represent the dedication of these two totally different artists in their approach to painting. Included will also be mixed media, prints and artists books.

Charles Ludlow is a well known, respected artist for his fine watercolours which were exhibited in many of Brisbane’s prestigious galleries during the 1960’s,’70’s,’80’s. A book about the Brisbane River was published as part of Expo 88 Celebrations.

Ada Richardson’s diversity of subject matter and use of media is to be admired. Constant experimenting over four decades in mark making with drawing, painting and collage make for a presence of mind, and unique vision. The discovery of etching in the 1990’s set Ada on a path as a print maker as well as a creator of artist books. A number of these books were collected for the Queensland State Library.

Both artists are highly respected for their commitment and dedication to the visual arts in Brisbane and Queensland for decades
