STRANGE FRUIT

‘Southern trees bear strange fruit,

 ‘Strange Fruit’ recorded by Billie Holiday in 1939, forms the inspiration
for this exhibition of James' latest works. Through these sculptural/3D
pieces he explores contemporary issues around social justice such as deaths
in custody, the ‘Bali Nine’ and drug use.

"Like many artists in these neo-conservative times I feel the urge to rattle
the cage of complacency and challenge those who seek to erode freedom and
human rights by promoting institutionalised violence as a legitimate act of
government." writes James.

 Please join James Needham-Walker on opening night to celebrate the creation
of his latest series of work.

MEMBERS EXHIBITION  If you are a member of the BIA you might like to
contribute work to the MEMBERS EXHIBITION Signs & Other Symptoms  which runs
from 27 March to 12 April.  Everyone is most welcome to the opening on the
31st March at 6pm at Gallery Nona, Brisbane Institute of Art, 41 Grafton St
Windsor.

CLASSES

The next 9 week courses start on the week beginning 22 April  and the
week-end courses for the Autumn Workshops  will be held on the last three
weekends of May.
