BIA News Update Painting Exhibition at the BIA

Come along and see these great Paintings at the Brisbane Institute of Art,
17 - 31 October 10 -4 pm each day



 

Mel McRae  spent his formative years in the northern suburbs of Melbourne
and has lived and painted in Brisbane for the past decade.  Mel's paintings
capture inner city Brisbane with a stark sense of realism frequently the
images depict a solitary figure contrasted against the sparse urban
landscape.  Ordinary everyday scenes are depicted with an added sense of
playfulness.  Mel's work takes its influence from Jeffrey Smart's
compositions and Edward Hopper's simplicity in subject.  Narrative also
plays a part in the work as we are invited to join the subject on their
journey and connect with their common and not so common experiences of urban
life.  These works seek to intensify the artists experiences of the city,
and in turn intensify the viewers recognition of this experience.
