As there are no shops close by, please bring snacks or lunch. BYO cup for coffee and tea.

 

 

PAINTING

Painting 1 OR Painting 2 (Robert Andrews)

An A-5 visual diary (or similar) and a pen or pencil (for note taking) - the visual diary will also be used during the semester.  A small range of acrylic paints in 75ml tubes, or similar - e.g. white, black, cool red (crimson), cool blue (pthalo blue), cool yellow (lemon), Payne's grey. A more extensive list will be given out during the first class. - A few bristle brushes - e.g. one each of size 8, 10 & 12 flat-ended bristle. - A water container for cleaning brushes Three sheets of A-2 cartridge paper OR canvas paper,- A pair of scissors, - A cleaning rag, - A recycled ice cream lid, or similar, for use as a mixing palette, - Two bulldog clips

Painting 1 OR Painting 2 (Sally Duhig)

One household paint brush; 4 flat bristle brushes (ranging from 5 – 20mm); 1x size 6 flat bristle hogs hair; 1x size 6-8 synthetic (taklon) pointed brush]; 8 sheets of cartridge paper (approximately A2 size); 2 sheets cartridge paper (A1 size) rags such as an old t-shirt,  ice cream size container for water or rectangular bucket (good for carrying your paint in as well);  Palette - [eg. perspex or large white ceramic tile]; A3 sketch book; Student quality acrylic paints eg Chromacryl [75ml - Warm Blue,  Cool Blue,  Warm Red,  Cool Red,  Warm Yellow,  Cool Yellow;  plus  White &  Black, A4 Visual diary &  coffee cup.

Painting 2 OR Painting 3 (Paul Milburn)

Small hard bound notebook A4 (unruled plain cartridge paper) for note taking and visual diary/sketchbook;  [You may have many of the following items items already if you have done painting 1];  oil paint - 38ml tubes student quality  [Cerulean Blue,  French Ultramarine,  Lemon Yellow,  Cadmium Yellow (or similar mid yellow),  Alizarin Crimson,  Cadmium Red (or similar warm red), Paynes Grey, Yellow Ochre, Raw Umber, Burnt Umber,  Ivory Black, AND  Titanium White in largest tube you can buy!];  palette;  brushes [mostly hog hair filbert and flat tipped from size 10 to 20];  pure turpentine [gum or odourless];  cotton rags [eg. old sheet torn into pieces];  pallete knife [tapered].

Creative Portraiture (David Paulson)

Charcoal and oil pastels, cartridge paper, odourless turps and paint rags will be needed for the first few classes.

Introductory Watercolour (Mia Clark)

280gsm Watercolour Pad A3 size (Montval is a good brand), Student quality tubes of watercolour paint – red, blue and yellow (DO NOT BUY MARIES OR MONTMATRE), masking tape, scissors, drawing boards, palette, tissues or paper towels, water containers x2, pencil or eraser, brushes small (size 0-2), medium (4-6) and large (8-10) – round and flat brushes.

Introductory Watercolour (Allin Dwyer)

Visual diary;  1 sheet 300gsm Watercolour paper (rough – Saunders or Arches);  roll of masking tape;  a good quality watercolour brush (round, No. 8, 10 or 12 – eg. Roymac, imitation sable);  mixing palette;  2 water containers (eg. plastic cups);  2B pencil;  soft eraser;  a box of tissues;  Watercolour paints :  Cadmium Yellow Light,  Yellow Ochre,  Cadmium Red,  Alizarin Crimson,  Ultramarine Blue,  Viridian, Burnt Sienna.

Marine Art (Jane James)

Brushes [acrylic taklon or sable, various sizes from 1 Round to 25mm Flat];  water container;  palette;  small glass or plastic jars for the mixing of paint;  rags or paper towel;  masking tape OR bulldog clips OR household pegs;  small sea sponge;  feather;  toothbrush;  palette knife;  NT cutter or similar;  3 x A1 sheets of oil sketch paper;  1x pad of drawing cartridge;  acrylic paints [Cerulean;  Ultramarine / Prussian Blue;  Phthalo Blue;  Phthalo Green - Blue Hue;  Viridian;  Permanent Sap Green;  Cobalt green;  Burnt Sienna;  Raw Sienna;  Yellow Ochre;  Burnt Umber;  Red Oxide;  Paynes Grey;  Titanium White] and 1 bottle clear acrylic medium (runny)..

Portraiture (Margaret Fredrickson)

Palettes (White ice cream lids or wood palette that has been rubbed well with linseed oil),  palette knife,  medium (small bottle of linseed oil),  small bottle of household turpentine (for washing brushes),  a jar with lid,  brushes (1 small pointy brush, several flat bristle brushes),  willow charcoal & paper,  support (eg. primed paper for week 1- glaze it, or your preferred surface, with thin yellow ochre or grey or grey/green so the white base shows through),  paints (oils preferred, though acrylics will be acceptable –  yellow ochre,  cadmium yellow,  crimson,  cadmium red,  black,  white,  burnt sienna;  optional:  oxide of chromium, lemon yellow,  burnt umber),  rags,  smock.

Portraiture (Mia Clark)                         

2B & 6B pencils and a pencil sharpener, a Faber Castel kneadable eraser, ruler, A3 pad of cartridge paper, masking tape, a small or medium sized paper blender [torchon], and an A4 display folder for notes. Mia will discuss some other materials needed for later in the course in class.

Painting & Technology (Lisa Shipper)

1 GB Flash Key, available at Officeworks for under $10 Minimum of 2 stretched canvases, primed, 1 metre˛ or larger. Lead pencils and drawing equipment. Prints: Students will be encouraged to get colour prints of all their finished projects. Cheap A4 Prints are available from many local outlets.

Pencils [HB – 6B];  two sticks compressed round charcoal;  one medium thick stick willow charcoal;  black drawing ink [that will flow through a pen];  round tapered watercolour brush with good regathering capabilities [ie. No. 6 taklon brush];  nib and nib holder [one pointed split nib];  butchers paper [3 large sheets];  cartridge paper [10 large sheets or A3 sketchbook];  two large, medium rough sheets of paper;  one piece lightweight card [el cheapo is good];  plastic eraser [for pencil];  gum rubber [for charcoal - not the same as a kneadable eraser);  ruler;  rough sandpaper;  found objects for dipping into ink and drawing with [day one].

Expressive Drawing (Sandra Ross)

10 sheets university cartridge paper 300gsm approx A3 in size (purchase a block or sheets and cut up);  butchers paper, cartridge paper, A3 visual diary;  pencils or progresso graphite pencils [2B , 4B & 6B]; ink, quill, willow charcoal in variety of thicknesses, a hard eraser,  ruler;  a  flat #6  or #8 hog brushes, #12 round brush (cheaper version),  and any others you have ; acrylic paint (alizarin, paynes grey, yellow ochre, burnt sienna, white and any other colours you might have), Atelier liquefying medium, water container, knife (blade), any of the following if you already have them; pastels, charcoal pencils, conte, compressed charcoal, aquarelle pencils or crayons,  impasto medium.

Exploring Drawing: from the expected to the unexpected (Nicole Sylvestre)

Pencils biro, felt pens, erasers, masking tape, black drawing ink, a few brushes, aquarelle pens if you have them, a plain household candle, A3 drawing pad, tracing paper, glue. Magazine, newsprint, any other papers you like.

Mosaic and the 3D Form  (Karl de Waal)

Bring any bits of pebbles or broken things (crockery etc) that you may like to incorporate in your mosaic,   palette knife;  sponge;  rags;  plastic gloves;  a pair of tile nippers (spring action with tungsten tip, $30hardware shops);  safety goggles or glasses;  (mosaic sheets, sealer and grout will be supplied as well as some tools.).
